Awwww.....week three with the baby goats

Well, the baby goats are three weeks old today.  We are half-way there to weaning them and I'm getting sad.  Even though I would love to keep all of them, it is neither prudent nor practical.  So, today will be vaccination day to get them started on their way to new homes.  They have started eating alfalfa and are so cute when they try to eat it.  Little teeth, I think, find it tough to chew through a type of grass, but they are persistent.  They are so much fun to watch, too.  They jump in the air like elaborate free-style dancers.  They are already "sparring" with each other which seems to be more of a test of wills. They look so sweet when they cuddle together and drift off to sleep.

Yesterday afternoon, I had the privilege and pleasure of watching two new ones enter the world.  Of course, like a proud momma, I think they are beautiful.  These are the first babies for this doe. It turns out that she is a very good mother!  One little boy and one little girl to add to the group we already have!  Naturally, that means there are three more weeks for me to have the added bliss of little babies.

Oh, and the prospect of having fresh goat's milk in the next few weeks is so appealing.  No additives, no preservatives, pure wholesome milk! Hubby can't really wrap his brain around goat milk.  I keep telling him that the United States is the only country in the world where per capita more cow's milk is sold than goat's milk.  Having been raised on raw cow's milk, I'm looking forward to a really cold glass of real unaltered milk!

I've already bought a book about making homemade cheese from both cow's or goat's milk but, frankly, as it stands right now, that is a bit of an undertaking.  I need to get some goat milk experience under my belt before I make a commitment to do that. I love goat cheese! Its smooth, mild flavor is something that I really enjoy but, while I really like it, I'm not quite ready to make my own.

So, at the end of the day, here I am sitting in our front row seat watching the great things that God has to offer us.  Now if He could just provide me with some extra time to expand on His offerings, I'd be in seventh heaven!
